What to Expect at Your First Reformer Pilates Class
Feeling Nervous? You're Not Alone.
At The Pilates Sphere, our Beginner classes are specifically designed to make your first experience welcoming, supportive and enjoyable and there is nothing we love more than welcoming new clients to our studio. We truly believe reformer Pilates is for everyone!
We also get that walking into your first Reformer Pilates class can feel daunting.
Will everyone know what they're doing?
What if you can't keep up?
What if you've never exercised before?
These are some of the questions we hear most often - and the good news is that almost everyone who joins us has felt exactly the same!
A warm welcome
Our boutique studio is located in the heart of Richmond and offers small-group classes with a maximum of 10 reformers.
From the moment you arrive, our instructors will help you feel comfortable and explain everything you need to know.
We also use WhatsApp to communicate with clients and when you buy the Intro Offer with us, we will WhatsApp you to welcome you to the studio, and you can contact us on that number with any questions.
Do I need experience?
Not at all.
In fact, everyone who is new to Reformer Pilates begins in our Beginner classes.
These sessions are specifically designed to introduce the equipment, fundamental movements and breathing techniques at a pace that's suitable for complete beginners.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.
Grip socks are required for safety and hygiene. If you don't already own a pair, they are available to purchase at the studio.
Before You Arrive
We encourage all clients to arrive at least five minutes early. If you are new to our studio, we can’t let you in once the class has started. Once you have been to one class, there is a 5 minute late policy - after five minutes, we can’t let you in.
Grip socks are mandatory in all our classes. For your safety, you can’t do class without them. You can either buy them in advance or buy them at our studio for £16.
Bring a water bottle! We have filtered cold water but no cups!
What happens during class?
If it’s your first time, the instructor will have a chat to check for injuries and to show you how to use the reformer. Each class starts with a gentle warm up and some leg and core activation.
You'll gradually learn how to:
use the Reformer safely - including how to change springs, how to move the footbar and how to use the straps.
engage your core
improve posture
build strength
move with confidence
At the end there is a short stretch, and then you will be asked to wipe down your reformer and leave it neatly ready for the next person.
Will I be sore?
You may notice muscles you've not used before, particularly in your core, glutes and upper body.
This is perfectly normal and often settles within a day or two.
