Strength Reformer Classes
What is Strength Reformer?
Our specialist Strength Reformer class is a full-body Strength class, combining the highly effective, evidence-based principles of strength training, with the Reformer.
By strength, we mean something very simple: in three months’ time, your muscles - arms, legs, back and chest - can lift, push or pull more than they can today, and that improvement can be measured. Every class will still combine core strength and abdominal work on the reformer.
Strength Reformer is a mixed-ability class. This means that as long as you have done a few beginner classes, and you are comfortable on the reformer, you can try Strength Reformer.
While we do work with heavier resistance in Strength Reformer, you will never be asked to lift more than your muscles can safely manage.
How does this differ from a usual Reformer class?
In Strength Reformer, we use the Reformer to work through focused strength blocks and, at times, sets of exercises, rather than continuously flowing from one movement to the next.
Resistance is gradually increased over time to create measurable strength gains.
This means more controlled movements with heavier resistance and weights, and less emphasis on high-repetition, bodyweight-based exercises or movements primarily designed to challenge balance.
As an example, in a reformer class, you might do a body-weight lunge series for 2-3 minutes, including pulses and holds. In Strength Reformer, you would do for example, 12-15 reps on the reformer, but do them with a heavier weight.
“I don’t want to get bulky!”
You won’t! Building significant muscle size takes months and months of focused, highly intensive and consistent training.
